Please, Tom
Tom,
As a former Dean of Studenty Affairs, administrator, professor, and presently alum of Gallaudet, I beseeach thee to come to your senses. As a psychologist I am concerned about the health and mental health of Gallaudet students, faculty and staff.
I am sending you this email because I keep getting reports from the West Coast that you are one of Dr. Fernandes’ staunchest supporters and have made unequivocal statements to the effect that she is the most qualified candidate–despite the FACT that her track record at the Clerc Center and during her six-year stint as Gallaudet University’s provost are ones of egregious and dismal failure. Mentioning the resounding faculty vote of no confidence is merely belaboring the point, as well as other compelling reasons for her removal as president-designate. History is fraught with the removal of university presidents whenever there are unrest, dissension, and turmoil within the faculty, students and alumni. The issue is not whether the president or president-designate is “right or wrong.” Rather, the removal is necessitated to keep the university functioning, and to maintain its integrity–and sanity, if you will. And to permit severely wounded Gallaudet University to heal.
Thank you.
