Endless Pondering

Interview with the TentCity Map Maker, Eric Hamlow

Several weeks ago, Eric came up with a fabulous idea of creating a visible map of the tent cities scattered all over the country and now the world. One could see at a glance where the tent cities are. It is so inspiring. The latest count is 71 with NTID’s very own tent!  elizabeth

 .

When Bay Area Tent City occurred, I was in DC coaching flag football team. On the next day, Gallaudet had its own the next day which I went, there were only 6 tents if memory serves me right, that was is Oct 2nd. I thought, that’s two so far… wondering would there be more. I discussed this with Tayler, wondering what would keep people on seats seeing tent city grow, behold the map. I planned to do image mapping on website where it would look still, only flags.Told Tayler, nah, I’ll do Flash, makes it more fun, click on flag, info box comes out, then click info box where it will go to its website. After a while, I decided to vlog about it, telling people to do more. You know the story, dissing some cities, some states. They ended up listening to me, some have asked me how to do tent city. I have developed guideline for some of them. After few days, it grew and kept on growing. To this moment it contains 68 Tent City all over the worldI decided to throw in surprise, which is interview with Mayor of Tent City, Chris Corrigan. Very moving interview, don’t u agree? Also mention that I never went to Gallaudet but attended RIT, my wife, who is Delanne Woodall-Hamlow, class of 00 at Gallaudet. We have two CODA kids which would have deaf children of their own due to skip generations. That is where I decided to give all my support and effort to make this happen. The protest itself inspires me, for second time in History that Gallaudet is Mecca of Deaf community. That is all I can think of, you can add some if you want from your experience consulting with me through time to time. By the way, my full name is Eric Faber Hamlow, can use that or Eric Hamlow. Residing in
Stockton, California.

Thanks

Eric

Here are two vlog, one with Eric explaining how he came up with the tent city map and the second one, an interview with Chris Coorigan. See how hearing the instant popularity of tent cities all over the country and the world inspires Chris. It is a powerful vlog. You can see why Chris Coorigan make a terrific rallying person :)

  1. It’s truly inspiring! It really made me cry!!!

It deserves to be on “sticky” link – or one that stays on the top all the time for people to view.

It can be easily ingored if it ends up in archieves!

I wish I had extra thumbs so I can give four instead of two! :)

  2. It is great. Oh he has his own website. It is called deafeye.com. As the tent cities are popping all over, the map is constantly changing.
