Endless Pondering

BoT Ken Levinson Must Be Removed!

A member of Board of Trustees Ken Levinson has recently
told a group of deaf people that he considered deaf signers
as dumb. Actually, he continues to think that deaf signers
are dumb because he said  the same story to President of
NAD Bobbie Beth Scoggins ten years ago. We must tell
the BoT to remove Ken Levinson from the BoT because
of his discrimiantion towards deaf signers. See below.

Press Release #2 – A Board Member Says that Signing Deaf People are Dumb
This entry was originally published at gallaudet protests

Friday, October 20, 2006

On Tuesday October 17, Gallaudet alumni Butch Zein, Robin Horwitz, James
Brune, and Bridgetta Bourne-Firl met with Ken Levinson, a Trustee of the
Board of Gallaudet University, at his office in San Francisco. They
discussed their concerns at the meeting, and at the end of the
conversation Mr. Levinson said, “I always thought deaf people that use
sign language were dumb people but eventually I learned they weren’t, and
I enjoyed chatting with you all.”

This brought to mind an instance that Bobbie Beth Scoggins experienced
when she played a softball game with Mr. Levinson twenty years ago where
he said the same thing.

  1. Cynthia Ashby of BOT should be next after Ken to be removed! Ashby as director of state schools in GA, hired a superintendent of Georgia School for the Deaf (GSD) last year – with no sign skills nor knowledge of deaf education. The Georgian Deaf community (and some from nation) protested, but to no avail. Do we want someone THAT insensitive to be on our board? NO THANK YOU. ASHBY OUT TOO!
