Gallaudet University Protesters True Patriots

THE EXAMINER (DC)

Letter to the editor

Gallaudet University protesters are true patriots

Re: “Enough is enough at Gallaudet,” Editorial, Oct. 16

Your editorial is in poor taste and very anti-American. Anyone paying
$11,000-plus tuition has a right to address where their money is going
and how those high-dollar funds will be used. Obviously, there was
enough doubt about I. King Jordan and Jane Fernandes to motivate
students to rigorously address their concerns. These are true patriots!

Thankfully, the students were not self-absorbed and did not harm
anyone, unlike Rep. Mark Foley – an esteemed Republican who has yet
to be arrested for much worse conduct.

Most Americans despise gestapo/red Chinese/Soviet-style tactics of mass
arrests. The force of law should never trample the hard-fought,
cherished rights of Americans to protest against injustices.

  1. what has been going on? Will BoT come ot the univeristy because they have to do soemthing and they voted for them to come asap and in the washington post, Fernandes said, ” i will do anything to resolve the crisis” then she MUST resign!

  2. Jane just needs to learn to humble herself and just resign. She is holding Galladuet hostage from everyone despite majority of them against her. There is something she wants so baddly that she refuses to give it up. I don’t understand why she wants to lead a group so against her.

  3. Neither do I, John. I don’t understand BoT’s attitude, either. Does anyone?

  4. At least Examiner published an good article just now: http://www.examiner.com/a-354481~Gallaudet_alumni_pitch_in_at_protest.html

Most significant thing about this article is that Jane has implicitly admitted that the leaked email reported by Washington Post is indeed hers.

In other word, she has confirmed that she did in fact threaten BoT among things.

FSSA, take that to your advantage.

  5. Also, I have been thinking long and hard about the attitudes by IKJ and JFK and still am stumped.

Let’s say it was a blackmail. What blackmail would be so great that the victim (be it BoT, IJK or JFK) to press on no matter what? Blackmail works only when it is perceived that costs of playing along is less than cost of potential embarrassment when the dirty secret is uncovered.

If it was embezzlement, it is implicitly presumed that it’s not just JFK (or else IJK/BoT would have denounced her by now). However, criminals are more likely to break down and try to strike out on their own (e.g. JFK would turn on IJK and accuse him of embezzling or something like that), and the whole affair would be quickly exposed. It’s very fragile thing.

If JFK was delusional, there’s more just than simple obstinacy. Has she acted in other way that is fitting of a insane person. I’m inclined to say no. I think her lying is more implausible than believing that she is savior but is totally misguided. Besides, it would become apparent to people closer to her, not to the people from afar.

I guess I’m just at loss as Mishka is. :\

  8. The deaf community is being supressed! When Gallaudet orders email cut off, the goal is apparently to silence the deaf voice! Electronic communication medium (email, IM, blog) is as vital to the deaf community as television is to the hearing!!! Jane needs to get off her power trip! The deaf WILL BE HEARD! Step down Jane! You obviously have underestimated the deaf community and have no clue about deaf culture! Where is the media to report these atrocities?? Even in this blog – links are being removed – is this censorship??????

  9. Jeanie, when was the e mail access cut off? I did recollect vaguely there was a problem with Gallaudet server the day after HMB take over, but I was under the impression several hours lapsed before it was resumed. I don’t know if the shut down was deliberate or not. Were there other incidents?

Anonymous, who knows what’s going on?

  10. I think Jeanie meant that email cut-off is the GUAA’s mailing list addresses which Gally admin took away from GUAA.

I agree that IKJ/JKF has made the world look at us down and that is very shameful. I don’t think we ever seen the history like this one ever.

One thing for sure, we have “won”. Yes we have won, but not official yet. You know in the football game, say Baltimore
is playing Pittsburg and Baltimore is leading 63-0 with 5 minutes to go in 4th quarter. We can say that Baltimore has “won” even though it is still 5 minutes left as we know no team has come back from 0-63 deficit in last 5 minutes. Same thing with our protest situation, we have won, but not official yet, that is how I see.

Yes, in this kind of game, we just definitely keep running up the score until JKF is resigned or fired.

    Keep running up the score!!!

  12. Mishka Zena, there will be thousands of protesters joining hands tomorrow in front of our nation’s capitol. Tens of thousands more of us stand with them in spirit. We are counting on you to bring us images from the heart of the rally. All hail the patriots standing together for what we believe in!

A Dream of Peace for Gallaudet! An End to Audism at Gallaudet Forever!
