To Deaf Nation and interviewer, Joel Barrish
I am impressed with Joel Barrish’s dignity in providing Vlogs on both sides. I felt he was very professional and non threating whereas I King Jordan and Jane K Fernades were able to present their views/issues (I am confident Joel Barrish has some of his own views yet he was able to “listen” without judging during the interview). Joel asked tough and honest questions at ease in a professional poise manner. I am wondering if this would be a light to be open minded to have a mediator on both sides to resolve this crisis for the sake of our love and passion for Gallaudet University, Deaf/Higher education, and learning.
Let us think about Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, Laurent Clerc, and Alice Cogswell would want. As I remember, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet was a hearing man who asked Laurent Clerc, a Deaf educator from France to come to Connecticut to provide Deaf education in the United States through beloved American Sign Language. The scarifices both Gallaudet and Clerc made was for US. Let us perserve Deaf History’s dignity by keeping an open mind, using the principles of Martin Luther King and Ghandi for standing for win-win situation. Something has got to give.
How far are WE, all of us are going to continue to tarnish Clerc, Gallaudet, and Alice. Their spirits continue to be Gallaudet University’s destiny.
Thanks Joel !
I agree. Joel Barish deserves praise for his excellent interviews with IKJ and JKF. I’m very impressed also with how they answered Joel’s tough questions. If watching those two videos doesn’t renew your faith in their abilities to lead, nothing will.
Hi,
Joel’s last name is Barish not Barrish. Good job!
Working Brain, their history speak for themselves.
I agree. I knew Joel Barish in his youth and I am impressed with the man he turned out to be today. However, when he asked Jane what she believed might happen if she resigned, and she said it would hurt Gallaudet, and I wish Joel asked, “In what or how would your resignation harm Gallaudet” to force her to specifically explain how her resignation would cause Gallaudet to go belly-up??
