Daughter of BOT Member Speaks Out
Ok,
I feel the need to do a little bit more explaining here before you totally twist around what my father said. When he said that the BOT is full of “high status group of people” it means that its full of people who are smart intelligent people. You have to know that this includes the Deaf members of the BOT. My father does believe that Deaf people can lead. If he didn’t think that, why would he be on the BOT? BOT is one of many Deaf causes he has been involved with. Because of me, he has campaigned for Deaf causes ever since it was discovered I couldn’t hear very well, from being on the board of the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing here in Milwaukee to becoming president of a Lion’s Club chapter when he discovered how they sponsor a camp for the Deaf every summer that I attended religiously. He also campaigns for Wisconsin School for the Deaf.. trying to bring in funds to help improve the education there. If you think he’s on the board because he’s a buddy of Jordan, its not. Its because he has a proven track record of raising a lot of money for Deaf causes.
I did read that he didn’t recognize the FSSA, and that arguement is understandable since it did not go not go thru the proper proceedures to become recognized. In regards to the faculty vote, this conversation took place last week Wednesday, BEFORE the huge faculty vote, BEFORE the arrests.
I hope we are clear in understanding here. He maybe hearing and doesn’t know sign, (he has taken several classes and tried to learn it.. believe me!) but that doesn’t mean that he wants the best for all Deaf.

tell your dad to get involved RIGHT NOW. Fate of Gallaudet is in BOT hands.
I don’t see any mention in this article on whether you are supporting our cause or not. If you do, THEN educate your daddy!

But please do kindly remind your father that even if FSSA is not “official”, does not mean that it doesn’t have a valid following on campus.
After all, MLK’s Freedom Riders were not “official” in their day.
Charlotte, thank you for explaining and clarifying some points. I also can see that your father cares deeply for the deaf community which I am grateful. We understand that BOT tries its best, but I hope you would ask your father to re-consider the decision that BOT made.
One point that your father used to defend the BOT’s decision was that there was “small” faculty who voted “no-confidence” last May. Now with 82% on record last Monday, please ask your father that since the faculty’s vote, it should be MORE THAN CLEAR that it is not just a small group of faculty trying to stir up trouble at Gallaudet.
Please, I beg you, please tell your father to save Gallaudet from further trouble by changing his position and have JK resign.
I have six children myself. I can tell you that when my children conveys his/her opinions and feelings to me, it DOES AFFECT my thoughts and decisions. Please ask your father to reconsider.

I think you meant, “… that doesn’t mean that he does NOT want the best for all Deaf.” The mere fact the he engaged in the discussion is commendable – far more than any other BOT has had the courage to do openly so far. His efforts to involve and help in the deaf community (primarily) for you shows that he is a good father. If he could convince the other BOT members to take charge NOW, he will be that much more respected. Good luck to you both!

There were better ways to phrase his sentiments than to call BOT members “high status”. That reeks of classism and snobishness, and knowing your father’s job, and the tendency of those types to be clique-ish, it wouldn’t surprise me if he actually meant that BOT members are more important that the rest of us minions simply because they are in the “network” and enjoy priveleges, some of which were extended to you as well. You say he meant something else, and that’s possible. But I don’t find many of those BOT members to be “high status” in the sense of actually being intelligent enough to have a strong moral compass. If they did, we wouldn’t be having this crisis. Money talks. And your daddy knows it.

You deafinitely have a serious problem with your receptive language skill. It’s time for YOU to move on, instead of keep repeating on what you have already just said earlier. It’s time for you to answer my questions. Why are you avoiding my questions? Maybe you are having trouble understanding or processing my questions. Did I push your button or buttons?
I am getting an education as of right now and will get a degree before you know it. And how about you, are you getting an education? Do you know what’s “receptive language” skill means? Not sure if you.
