Gallaudet Must Do More To Help The Students
According to Gally mental health counselors, many arrestees and others on campus are experiencing post traumatic stress syndrome and other mental health issues related to the conflict. Members of the Gally mental health clinic are working very hard to continue to provide services, but looks to me that they are already or on the verge of being overwhelmed. Weve encouraged the administration to supplement the mental health services provided by the University. If the administration can hire extra security to arrest the demonstrators, then they are equally able to hire personnel to support and protect the well being of those on their campus.
Often in times of conflict, the mental health of those involved are unattended to as part of the “collateral damage.”
Please, lets be sensitive and careful about what is involved here. Hopefully certain folks will get past their specific agenda and think about how to talk about whats happening in a humane and caring way. The demonstrators cannot be said to have brought this on themselves all by themselves.
T’care.
