  1. I’d like to see a photo of that… is anyone stepping forward to claim responsibility? Is vandalism a felony offense?

  2. I think it’s terrible when people start vandalizing and destroying property. You guys have a right to protest but dont destroy and vandalize property! That’s terrible and I hope who did that faces the consequences of their actions.

  3. Should be on video. Whoever did it should be prosecuted. That said, it wouldn’t shock me if it was on of Jordan’s supporters trying to get protestors in trouble. Kinda like the bomb threats.

  4. Can you fix the link for us all to view the picture? We want to see it!

Don’t stoop low to vandalize anything… it won’t serve us any good. Only way to get point across is to remove the BOTs and the Administration (ie IKJ, JF, Mercy Coogan & more). Complain to your local senators, state reps and CONGRESS – you voted for them and they’re running election soon. Your voices will be heard eventually!

Thank you for keeping us all informed.

  6. oh my gawd!! the protest has turned violent and ugly.. first the stupid blockage and shutdown, now there’s property vandalism… I ‘m losing my patience and support for the FSSA and their actions on Gallaudet.

I hope IKJ will get his BALLS back and order Gallaudet to press full charges as allowed by law.

  7. I do not want his name back up ever again. We will keep taking it down.

  8. Nah JJ, when Jane steps down and a new administration is put in, they’ll take it down then, heh.

  9. My first assumption would be that the damage was done by someone trying to make the protesters look bad.

All the protesters who I know are exceptionally upright people–And smart. They know that such an act would never help the cause.

  11. I see the links now, thanks. Signs are replacable. Records of arrest are not. Who’s doing the real long term damage here? Admin. of status quo, of course.

  12. Sweetpeas, I am glad that it happened. IKJ doesn’t deserve to have a building named after him! He is supposed to wait until he is officially retired. Then the committee needs to get together and decide whether he is worthy naming a building after. IKJ apparently had a feeling he won’t get a building named after him so he opted to do it while he’s still the president. He is such a pig! And selfish! Thinking of himself.

I hope they won’t replace the damaged sign!

  13. Traditionally buildings were named after folks who already dead so none of them will be forgetten by future generations. You may ask yourself why you have to die to be honored? Well, you don’t want to make a mistake if one of those living honored folks make a big mistake like I. King Jordan did last night and we ended up taking it down. Once folks died, we can check if they had good reports before we honor them with the building. I King Jordan broke the tradition!!

  14. Check the camera (unless they are not being recorded then we are screwed.) And make sure its not one of the protesters. I know there is at least 2 cameras- one right under IJK’s sign name and from emg or library that area of sac. Been sneaking into the forbidden tunnell and watch dps’s montiors for camera feeds so I know that area.

  16. How did the board allows having a building name after IKJ? What about the real deaf leaders who fought for us? He was known as “Father of NAD”. His name is Fred C. Schreiber. A building was named after him at at NW Campus. But after closing NW Campus, I wonder if Gallaudet BoT forgot him?

  17. Any buildings shouldn’t be named after a person until the person retires or dies, not while the person is on the staff payroll.

  18. This is direct consequence of King Jordan’s actions. What will it make before he realizes how rationally angry people are?

  19. Wow jack, tell us how you REALLY feel. Let it all out. You’ll feel better. Seriously.

  20. No these are direct consequences of the protesters actions, direct being the key word. What will it take for you to realize you are fighting for something you will only come up losing at the end.
There is no such thing as a rationally angry person. You are just angry with resentments that probably go way back. I suggest seeking a Psych who may help if you have the capacity to be honest weith yourself.

  21. This reminds me of how Iraqi people feel when they destroyed the icons of their dictator who have harmed them so many ways. .Just like Jordan have injured his constituents

How unfortunate that Jordan has destroyed his legacy and is so despised by the very people who helped him gain presidency. What a terrible way for him to end his presidency. However, he has only himself to blame.

  22. I. NG …

“I am no good” in ASL I believe this is an unfinished vadalism business. This is not a random act of vandalism, but a careful process was made to send a powerful message. King, you’re no good!

  23. Yes, there can be a rationally angry person. Anger is a natural feeling. One can use anger to create productive changes. One also can use anger to destroy and create negative changes.

Social activism, working to change ineffectual systems and seeking legal resources are positive. Attacks, belittling, and threats are negative.

  24. I am disappointed to see property destroyed. It makes all of us protestors look bad. The behavior (and values) of a few individuals should not represent the whole, but it will no doubt be used against all of the protestors.

I do not, however, think that the building should have been named after him. This was a hasty decision and leaves me with a sick feeling.

Naming of buildings and rooms is something usually reserved for someone who has been away from the university for at least a few years. I was, likewise, disappointed to see the art gallery named after Jordan’s wife.

Had they waited a few years (even amidst the crisis we have right now) there is a good chance a building or room would have been named after them and that we would feel good about it. As it is, many of us are disappointed and feel like IKJ has let his time at Gallaudet go to his head.

  26. Vandalism usually reminds me of Hilter’s reign, terrorizing and theatening until Jane Fernandes breaks down.
Terrorism exists at Gallaudet now and must be stopped.
