The BoT On Way To Kendall Green Today
Ben Soukap is in DC area now. Several others are on their way today.
Correction: Soukap is here, but it is uncertain about the other BoT members. We do need to conact the other BoT members and urge them to do the same thing.

PAH!!! Gallaudet is in crisis – they should never have left last week. By the way, thank you so much for posting. I really appreciate all you’re doing!
Hello everyone,
On October 15 2006, NYC Tent City will be hosted at Central Park Zoo in Manhattan at 1pm. Please check out the website: http://nycfssa.blogspot.com/
Thank you,
Aidan
There are many Gally students who do not support the protest. Many of them are my friends. I went to Gally for 2 years, and I could not handle the discrimination I felt on that campus. Every day I was discriminated against by DEAF individuals. Because I could not sign very well, because I called my family on the phone, because I sang along with my music, because I had been in NSP, because I WASN’T DEAF ENOUGH!!
I sympathise with JKF and would like to see what plan she has to end the discrimination against non-culturally Deaf individuals on campus, because that is a problem I faced and that many of my friends still face.
I have news for you all. Gallaudet is not a University for the Culturally Deaf. It is a university for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing individuals of all backgrounds. Please do not force your views upon anyone.
The deafists will never be satisfied until Gallaudet is downsized to only 300 students and all culturally deaf. Will academic graduation rates improve? No. If anything, it’ll get worse.
I am culturally Deaf and I AGREE with “Comment by Me.” She/He is right on target. We, cultually Deaf, need to realize that their behavior is sabotaging their future by rejecting sort-of-deaf/hoh/late deafened/cochlear implantees and mainstream deaf.
The Deafhood movement is another attempt to separate the culturally Deaf (I call them “strong-Deaf”, some call them deafists, deaf militants, deaf fundamentalists and deaf terrorists).
Does Gallaudet belong to the strong-Deaf? Maybe. Becuase thats the only one place they can fit in. The resto fthe deaf people I mentioned above can blend in anywhere else. Maybe we should let the strong-Deaf fight for their home. Hmm?
I am culturally Deaf and am embarrassed to be one. Sorry.
The BoT should take the time to fire IKJ for playing chicken with the protestors and calling the DC police. IKJ effectively wasted a lot of emergency resources (ambulances and the fire dept also were there) from the DC that could have been used in more needed areas of the city. I hope the city send Gallaudet a huge bill for wasting their time. Therefore the BoT gotta fire him and on the process don’t forget to fire JKF too.
Ben’s last name is Soukup not Soukap
Keep up with good work!
Me and anonymous, I guess you both are in the minority, contrary to what you said. From what I’ve observed and read, the majority supports the protest.
Yo, I agree with you.
Hi, oops. my bad. Thanks for pointing out the typo
Mind, the protest is about poor administrative skills of Dr Fernandes and a flawed president candidate search procedure. Many hearing people are involved in the protests as well as deaf people with oral and/or mainstreamed backgrounds are, too. I’m a good example. I grew up 100% oral and didn’t learn sign language until I went to college.
What’s more, if this protest is all about Fernandes not being Not Deaf Enough, believe me, I wouldn’t be contributing my part to the protest. I believe in diversity and Gallaudet always have accepted students with different communicative backgrounds. However the main communication used in this school is sign language, exactly the reason the university was set up in the first place.
Moi, you are welcome and I also agree with what you said.
